Terms of service
The terms that apply when you install or use Sheet Zip.
Sheet Zip
Usage agreement
1. Acceptance
By installing or using the Sheet Zip add-on, or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the add-on.
These terms cover the downloadable add-on, the tools available on the Try it page, and the supporting pages on sheetzip.com. References to Sheet Zip, we or us mean the provider of those tools. If you use them for an organisation, you must have authority to do so and follow that organisation's rules for handling documents.
Accepting these terms does not grant optional Firefox data permissions or agree to a change of search provider. Those choices are presented and controlled separately in Firefox.
2. What Sheet Zip provides
Sheet Zip is a browser add-on providing tools for PDF files and ZIP archives. You can merge, split, extract pages, rotate, resize, compress, convert pages to images, convert images to a PDF, extract selectable text, create ZIP archives and extract their files. The tools run on your own device.
The website's Try it workspace lets you choose local files, set the available options, and download the output without installing the add-on. Sample documents on that page are created in your browser and are provided so you can try the controls before selecting your own files.
The add-on packages the PDF tools for use in Firefox. Its PDF operations work without an internet connection once the add-on is installed. Loading this website, obtaining updates, following external links, and requesting search results can require a connection.
The tools are currently free, with no paid tier, watermark or page quota. That does not mean every file can be processed: available memory, browser capabilities, document complexity and file condition can limit a job.
3. Licence and permitted use
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the add-on. You may not resell it, redistribute modified copies, or represent it as your own product.
This permission lets you install and operate the official add-on and use the website's tools subject to these terms. It does not give you permission to use the Sheet Zip name or logo to imply that a different product is ours or that we endorse it.
Restrictions in these terms do not override permissions that apply to individual open source components. Where a component has its own licence, that licence governs your use, modification and distribution of that component.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the files you process and for holding the rights to process them. Do not use Sheet Zip on material you are not permitted to use, or in any way that breaks the law.
You are responsible for keeping your own backups. Some operations produce output that cannot be reversed, and those are described below and warned about in the interface.
You keep ownership of your input documents and the content of the files you create. Selecting a file for local processing does not transfer that ownership to us or give us permission to publish it.
Check the result before you send it, print it, sign it, submit it to another service, or delete an original. Check page order, page size, legibility, text, and any interactive content you need. Keep an unchanged source copy for anything important.
If your files include somebody else's personal, confidential or protected information, you remain responsible for having a lawful reason to use it. Local processing does not replace your employer's security rules or any duties you have to the people named in a document.
5. Operations that change your documents
Two behaviours are stated plainly here because they involve a real tradeoff:
- Stronger compression flattens pages. It rasterises each page to reduce file size, which permanently removes selectable text from the output. The interface warns you before it runs.
- Resize redraws pages. Text stays selectable, but links, comments and form fields are dropped. The interface warns you when the tool is selected.
Merge, split and extract copy pages without redrawing them. Check the saved result if you need links, form fields or other interactive content. In every case the original file on your computer is not modified, because output is always written as a new file.
Other tools also change the structure or format of their output. Rotation changes page orientation. PDF to images creates image files rather than editable PDF text. Images to PDF combines images into pages and does not recognise words in a photograph.
Extract text reads an existing text layer. It does not perform optical character recognition, recover missing text, or guarantee the reading order of columns and tables. A scan may produce little or no text.
Compression results depend on the source document. A file that is already optimised may not become smaller. If compression would produce a larger file, the tool returns the original with a note. File size reductions shown in the homepage animation are illustrative and are not a promise about your document.
Do not assume a transformed document will retain a valid digital signature, meet an archive standard, or satisfy another organisation's submission rules. Verify those requirements separately before relying on the output.
6. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to interfere with the add-on's operation, circumvent its consent handling, or use it to process material you have no right to.
Do not use the website to send malicious code, disrupt access for other people, attempt unauthorised access to systems, impersonate another person, or send spam through the contact form. You must not remove required copyright or licence notices when using components under their own licences.
We may restrict access to hosted services when needed to address abuse, a security problem, or a legal requirement. We do not need access to your documents to enforce rules about use of the website.
7. Intellectual property
The Sheet Zip name, logo and interface are ours. The add-on bundles third party open source libraries for reading and writing PDF files and for archive handling, each under its own licence. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any of it to you, and nothing affects your ownership of the documents you process.
The PDF tools use bundled libraries, including pdf-lib, PDF.js and JSZip. Their copyright and licence notices remain with those components. A right reserved by Sheet Zip in its own branding or interface does not cancel rights a library author grants you separately.
You are responsible for respecting copyright, confidentiality and other rights in documents you select. The ability to open or convert a file is not proof that you have permission to reuse or distribute its content.
8. Third party services
Sheet Zip is distributed through Firefox Add-ons, which has its own terms. This add-on requests permission to update your default search engine to Yahoo. Searches using Yahoo by Sheet Zip go directly to Yahoo. We are not responsible for the content of search results or for third party terms.
Using the PDF tools does not require you to submit a search. The PDF workspace has no web search box. Browser searches using Yahoo by Sheet Zip go directly to Yahoo, as explained in our privacy policy. The extension does not receive or store those queries.
Links to Firefox Add-ons, search results and other external websites take you to services operated by others. Their availability, accounts, content and handling of information are governed by their own terms. Sheet Zip is not affiliated with Mozilla.
Messages you choose to send through the contact page are different from documents you process with a PDF tool. Use that form for a description of the issue, and avoid including confidential file contents or passwords.
9. No warranty
Sheet Zip is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error free, or that the output of any operation will suit a particular purpose.
PDF files can contain encryption, unusual fonts, damaged structures and features that the tools do not support. Output may differ from how another viewer renders the source. Browser updates and device limits may also affect whether an operation completes.
Sheet Zip is a document utility. It does not verify the legal effect, authenticity, accuracy or completeness of your documents, and it is not a substitute for professional advice where you need it.
This disclaimer applies only to the extent the law allows. Any warranty, guarantee or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded remains available.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profit or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Sheet Zip.
These limits apply only where they are lawful. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility for fraud, deliberate wrongdoing, or any other liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. Nothing takes away consumer rights or remedies that the law gives you and does not permit you to waive.
Keep backups and review output before relying on it. Local file processing means we do not hold a server copy from which we can recover an original or a result you did not save.
11. Indemnity
You agree to hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the add-on or your processing of material you had no right to process.
This obligation applies only to the extent permitted by law and to claims caused by your unlawful use or breach of these terms. It does not make you responsible for conduct attributable to us or remove any protection you have under applicable consumer law.
12. Changes
We may add, change or remove features, and we may stop distributing the add-on at any time. We may update these terms, and continuing to use the add-on after an update indicates acceptance.
Updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised date. Changes apply from their stated date and do not retroactively change the terms that applied to earlier use. Where the law requires further notice or agreement, that requirement still applies.
We do not promise that a particular tool, browser version, distribution channel or hosted page will remain available indefinitely. Keep copies of files you need rather than treating a browser tab as permanent storage.
13. Termination
You may stop using Sheet Zip at any time by removing it from your browser. See the uninstall page. We may terminate the licence if you breach these terms.
To stop using the website tools, clear the selected files and close the tab. Download any output you want to keep first. Files you have already saved remain on your device and are under your control.
Removing the add-on does not delete the documents you previously saved. Changes to optional permissions are managed in Firefox, as described in the privacy policy. Terms about ownership, responsibility for earlier conduct and lawful limits of liability continue to apply where their purpose requires it.
14. Severability
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
A failure to enforce a term on one occasion does not mean it has been waived for every future occasion. If an individual open source licence or a mandatory legal right conflicts with a restriction here, that licence or right continues to apply to the extent of the conflict.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through our contact page. See also the privacy policy.
You can also email contact@sheetzip.com. For a tool problem, include the tool name, browser version, what you expected, and the error message. A sample file with invented or non-sensitive content is more suitable for troubleshooting than a private document.
Support can help explain the tools and investigate reported problems, but we do not guarantee a particular response time, recovery of unsaved files, or a change for every request.
